HandBrake is an open source video transcoder for Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows. It is free and can convert AVI files [1] to MP4 format.
Application Site: http://handbrake.fr
Prerequisite: Download and install HandBrake.
Estimated Process Time: 40 minutes for a 60 minute video.
Steps:
Step-1. For Mac, go to Applications folder and open HandBrake.
Step-2. Select a Source file, the AVI file you want to convert.
Step-3. Select Destination folder.
Step-4. Customize Output Settings:
- Format
- Video Codec
- Audio
- etc. (optional items)
Step-5. Click Start.
Step-6. Click OK once completed.
Notes:
[1] The AVI file I converted had an “AVI no sound” issue. I used VLC to address the sound problem. Converting the raw AVI to MP4 with HandBrake also addressed the issue.
