WordPress allows you change your default front page into a static page instead of posts.
Application Site: http://wordpress.com/
Prerequisite: WordPress Account.
Process Time: 5 minutes.
Steps:
Step-1: Go to the application site.
Step-2. Log in your WordPress account.
Step-3. Click “Pages” under the Posts section.
Step-4. Click Add New.
Step-5. Name this page as “Home”. [1]
Step-6. Type the content you want displayed on the front page of your blog. Publish that page.
Step-7. Add another page.
Step-8. Title this page as “Posts”.
Step-9. Publish these pages. You don’t need to type any content, because it will not be displayed.
Step-10. Go to Settings ->Reading on the left menu of the screen.
Step-11. Change the Front Page Displays settings by selecting “A static page”. [2]
Step-12. Assign “Home” to Front page.
Step-13. Assign “Posts” to Posts page.
Step-14. Click Save Changes. [3]

Note:
[1] You can change the names of the pages accordingly.
[2] The Front Page will not display until you have at least one published post.
[3] After making these changes, posts will no longer show on the front page of your blog. The static page “Home” will show there. Visitors will click on the link to “Posts” in your pages list to see your latest posts.

when i followed these instructions, my home page (which i am calling “welcome”) appears both as the home page and also as a separate “welcome” tab on the bar below. the tab goes away if i mark it as private, but then the page title appears as “private: welcome” which is weird!!!
any advice???!!!
