This is Google trying to market Google applications, aka Team Edition.
This is where Google wants you to end up using.
The adoption takes time (especially for the majority of MS Office or offline users) but surely Google is going to make this tougher for competition, which I think only Zoho will have a good chance. There was a time when I waited for Yahoo to upgrade its Yahoo Notepad function within Yahoo Mail to a full blown online document editing application — but it was Godot-ish.
What transpired was I shifted to Gmail and, by now, most of my documents are already in Google cloud. But here’s a request to Google that may even further widen the Google moat:
To Google: Further integrate Google Docs to Gmail by providing a function to directly save a document in Gmail.
Here’s a sample shot.
This is not saving an attached word document to Google Docs, a feature already provided. This is saving a Google Doc when you press “C” or compose in Gmail.
Well, this is also valid for Zoho, which is currently testing Zoho Mail in private beta. But I don’t have access to Zoho Mail as yet.
Oh, btw, going back to Google Apps, here’s an overview of the Team Edition.
