Tiny URL, and other similar URL shorteners, is a technology that simplifies or reduces a URL’s length. This is mostly applicable for long URL addresses that you would want to post in a web communication service like Twitter. Twitter only allows a 140-character posting. So if you have a URL that has a 165 character string, then you won’t be able to post that in Twitter. You would need to simplify the address so can share it to your friends through micro blogging platforms such as Twitter.
The Mahalo Follow toolbar automatically uses TinyURL if your recommended site has a URL length beyond the allowed number of characters for posting.
